OUR VISION
Our vision is to train care providers and empower them in their efforts to control the HIV/AIDS epidemic in India.
HMI and Wockhardt conducted extensive research in Mumbai to identify gaps in HIV/AIDS care and support in the city. The survey revealed that despite widespread awareness about HIV/AIDS, the city did not have a dedicated organization to provide a structured and scientific education & training in the prevention and care of HIV/AIDS patients.

The formation of WHARF is closely connected with one of the most important lessons learned in the health care world in the past 25 years: that the AIDS epidemic is a problem with a solution. WHARF's aim is to bring HIV education to a multidisciplinary group of clinicians in both urban and rural settings. AIDS is an exceptional problem calling for exceptional leadership. We believe that this leadership involves efforts that confront the realities of this epidemic, acknowledging the issues affecting the troubled, the at-risk, and the underserved among us. As an academic/private partnership, WHARF is well positioned to provide such leadership.
WHARF is working with National, Regional and Global programmes to fulfill its vision. WHARF is a platform for clinicians, nurses, paramedics and counselors to acquire knowledge in the areas of their specialization as they relate to HIV/AIDS. International faculty from HMI and Mumbai delivers training to the Primary Care Givers. WHARF conducted its first program in December 2002. This program was tailor made for Health care providers working in high-risk communities. WHARF - trained personnel have been mentoring community based physicians and counselors in high risk communities.
